Dean P. Foster
Director of Statistics

Dean P. Foster is a Professor of Statistics at The Wharton School focusing on research in statistical inference for stochastic processes; game theory and variable selection.  Professor Foster's research has been published in top-tier academic journals such as the Journal of Economic and Social Measurement, American Statistician, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Behavioral Decision Making and the American Journal of Mathematical and Management Sciences.

Professor Foster earned his PhD from the University of Maryland, his MSc from Rutgers University, and his MA and BSs from the University of Maryland.



Robert A. Stine
Director of Statistics

Robert A. Stine is a Professor of Statistics at The Wharton School focusing on research in computer software design; econometric modeling methodology; statistical analysis; multivariate; statistical computing and graphics; time series analysis and forecasting.  Professor Stine's research has been published in top-tier academic journals such as American Statistician, IEEE Trans. on Information Theory, J. Amer. Statistical Assoc., and Sociological Methods & Research.

Professor Stine is the recipient of the Miller-Sherrerd MBA Core Teaching Award, 1993-94, 2003; the David W. Hauck Award for Outstanding Teaching, 2001; and the Excellence in Teaching Award (Undergraduate Division), 2001, 2003.  

Professor Stine earned his PhD and Master's degrees from Princeton University and his BS from the University of South Carolina.


Lee Cooper

Founder, Strategic Data Corporation

Lee G. Cooper is Professor Emeritus at the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management. He became emeritus in late 2004 after being on the UCLA faculty for over 35 years. He founded Strategic Data Corp. in early 2000 and was its first CEO and Chairman. Devoted to technology enabled marketing, SDC was acquired in early 2007 by News Corp. to monetize the web properties of Fox Interactive Media, including MySpace.com. Within Fox Interactive Media, SDC is building the largest performance-based display ad network in the world. Professor Cooper’s developments of analytical systems for large-scale consumer data have been published in Management Science, Marketing Science The Journal of Marketing Research, The Journal of Consumer Research, Behavioral Science, Multivariate Behavioral Research, and Psychometrika. Professor Cooper earned a Masters Degree and Ph.D. in Psychometrics from the University of Illinois, and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.



Dr. Michael Kearns (Website)
Professor of Computer and Information Science, University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Michael Kearns is a professor of Computer and Information Science at The University of Pennsylvania, where he holds the National Center Chair in Resource Management and Technology.  He also has a secondary appointment in the Operations and Information Management (OPIM) department at Wharton.  In addition to his position at Penn, Michael currently leads the Systematic Trading group of Banc of America Securities in New York City. 

From 1991-2001, Dr. Kearns conducted basic AI and machine learning research at AT&T Labs and Bell Labs, where he was the head of the AI department from 1997-2001, conducting a broad range of systems and foundational AI work.  He has published extensively in machine learning, AI, algorithmic game theory, and computational finance. He also has significant experience advising technology-oriented startups and venture capitalists.

Dr. Kearns received a bachelor’s degree in math and computer science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1985, and received a Ph.D. in computer science from Harvard University in 1989.

Josh has been an active entrepreneur and investor in the Internet industry since its commercialization. In 1992, while he was a student at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Josh co-founded Infonautics Corporation – an Internet information company. In 1996, Infonautics went public on the NASDAQ stock exchange.

Josh founded Half.com in July of 1999, and led it to become one of the world’s largest sellers of used books, movies and music. Half.com was acquired by eBay in July 2000 -- and Josh remained with eBay for three years, running the Half.com business unit and growing eBay’s Media marketplace to almost half a billion dollars in annual gross merchandise sales.

In late 2003 Josh helped to found TurnTide, an anti-spam company that created the world’s first anti-spam router. TurnTide was acquired by Symantec just six months later.
